Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, the lipstick of Miss McDowell. Its imprinted on my brain. She was a great teacher at Jefferson. She was the runner up for Mr. McCann. Tough, smart, and a very genuine teacher.

I saw her while I was waddling around Mt. Lebanon pregnant with my second daughter. I had done some professional writing and she asked me about the "direct object, indirect object, etc." The mere thought of getting the answer wrong was enough to hurry the conversation along.

My oldest was standing next to me and was frightened by her lipstick!

Can anyone say, "Miss Gerhardt"? And hey, Mr. Schreiner, I think, is still around or just recently retired. LIA? What do you know? Maybe you could post an invite to the reunion in teachers' lounge.

Oh yes, I remember Miss Gerhardt. Many of us weren't so nice to her in Biology. She could never remember how to pronounce "tamara" so she started calling me "Tam" and i can still hear pete laschied using the same intonation and jokingly calling me "tam" too.I also remember making cheat sheets in minute printing on gum wrappers in that class. Soon after that i decided cheating was stupid and didn't do it again after that class. But i sure could fit a lot of info on one gum wrapper!

Maugeen we are starting to get some others coming to the reunion from Miss Gerhardts' homeroom...Ron Schreiner and Philip Pelussi both still live in Pgh (as far as I know)...Mr. Pelussi is a realtor (has been since we were in high school)

Okay everyone...lets all make a concerted effort to call a few friends to get them interested in the website and come to attend the reunion

Does anyone know any adoption attorneys...I am looking for attorneys to refer clients in the Pittsburgh area in particular, but we can use attorneys throughout the US

Mr. Schreiner is retired, but still coaches girl's track. His wife, Cindy, is a theater teacher. Mr. Pelusi is also retired. He and his wife attend most home football games.

About 6 years ago my parent's church, Mt. Lebanon United Lutheran, decided to organize a trip to Italy. My mother, sister, sister-in-law and I went on the trip. Low and behold the Pelusi family were also part of the group. At first it was a little strange being in a social situation with a former teacher. I probably didn't call him Mark the whole trip. He, his wife and son were really fun to travel with and are extremely nice people. It was a real plus viewing some of the world most famous works of art with a former art teacher.

I've enjoyed this site. Sue- you've done an amazing job. I remember you as a doer in high school. Wish I could be there but I can't. Enjoy the reunion everyone.

I told my kids about Miss. Gerhardt, the biology teacher. She liked us to use different colors in our homework I used to write and submit nursey rhymes (in color of course) and always got a 100%.

If anyone is intersted in playing golf on Saturday morning at Olde Stonewall (about an hour outside town), please e-mail me by the end of this week at michaelhleb@yahoo.com. I am trying to get a group together. If we get four (4) foursomes, we get a slight discount and some goodies. This is a highly rated course with green fees to match ($150). Check out the website if you don't know the course (I didn't). For those who might like to join the fun but don't golf, I will ask the golf shop about non-golfers if we get enough people. Let me know. By the way, I suck so don't be afraid to sign up if you're not much of a player.

I simply wanted to encourage people who are now making up their minds whether to attend the reunion to come. You can still get the seven day plane tickets if you're out of town, and if you live in Pittsburgh, there's no good excuse. If you are feeling marginalized for any reason -- not working, not enough money, unmarried, whatever, you won't be the only one in that particular situation. Ten years ago I missed the reunion because my father was very ill. He died a few months later, but now I realize it might have been a good thing to go. So just come. A lot of people will be wanting to see you.

Mary Anne is right folks. If you are feeling unsure that's ok because the rest of us don't know how we will measure up either(at 5' tall think of all the short jokes you can lay at my feet).

Think of it this way; don't you want to hear Pete Lascheid call me "Cupcakes" or see me stuffed into a locker for posterity?

Everyone should make the effort to be at the reunion. When the great stories are told I want to be part of them!

Fans of Harriot Printz - I had a long phone conversation with her this afternoon. She would love to hear from us! Her health is not great, but she is going to try to come to the high school tour or Moejo's on Sunday morning. Hopefully, she will log on and update her profile. But you can e-mail her at "doglady@teacher.com". Make sure you put your (maiden) name and class of '78 in the subject line, or she will delete it (i.e "Hello from Sue Albrecht, Lebo class of '78"). Our '78 homeroom was her first homeroom, which I didn't realize. She has an incredible memory!

Quiz - what was the ozone?

09/28/08 11:40 AM #84

James Harvey Rogan

Answer - section of smoking area by the gym doors which was shrouded in a thick layer of cigarette and other types of smoke. Those who frequented this area were often times drifting aloft in the ozone layer. MLHS was green way before it's time.

I think i passed (quickly) through the smoking area only 1 time during my 4 years at lebo. I didn't like cig smoke and had given up the other kind at the beginning of 9th grade and none of my friends were smokers so there was no reason for me to be out there.
Anyway, it would be interesting to know what the teachers and administrators thought (and knew) about all that was going on around the school back then.
It seems (from raising a son and being involved slightly at his public school in seattle between '03-07)that pot smoking and drinking are as popular now as they were when we were in school, but the attitudes and tolerance of it by school officials are much more conservative. Ay Seattle schools smoking of any kind is not allowed on school grounds anywhere so kids hang around just over the property line and smoke there.

ANYONE INTERESTED in creating a FUND from the class of '78 to be used either for a scholarship for a Lebo Sr with financial need, or for a Pittsburgh, National, or International education related organization?

I feel I and many of my former Lebo classmates enjoy such financial and educational privilege and would love for whoever is interested to come together and give to others.
It may be too difficult for everyone to agree on where the money should go, but then again it could be an informative and interesting process.

Please either reply here or to me privately if this is something that would interest you.
I am NOT a fundraiser nor experienced with organizing this sort of thing but i am sure some of you are so please come forward if interested...
After the reunion maybe we can post something more prominent on the home page to catch people's attention?

Thanks for considering this.
love, tamara (tammy scarlett) in seattle

By the way-

An organization I am very interested in supporting is the Central Asia Institute (started by Greg Mortenson who's fascinating and inspiring story is told in the book, Three Cups of Tea)
If interested check out this page of the web site

main G.M> website is: http://www.gregmortenson.com/welcome.php

just one idea for who we might donate to...

Another teacher heard from - Judy Hulick was the Latin teacher when we were in high school. She retired in 2003, but still lives in Mt. Lebanon. She plans to go to Mojoe on Sunday morning. In her e-mail she said "Actually my favorite class was 1978. It will be so much fun to meet with you." Why did the teachers like us so much?

Hey perhaps they loved us so much because there were so many of us to love...were we not one of the biggest classes to graduate from MTL?

09/30/08 09:33 AM #90

Carl S. Neishloss

Judy Hulick is actually a Lebo alum. She graduated with my oldest brother Eric (class of '63). They are still good friends. A few years ago when my uncle passed, she came to the funeral home. What a great lady.

My memories of Miss McDowell’s class at Jefferson Jr. include trying to play poker with the “Author’s Card Game” without getting caught!

Thanks for voting for "Fan Game of the Week"! Alby says "Job well done" - not that he should expect anything less! We are currently in the lead!

I just checked the voting and its neck & neck between Lebo vs Peters at 229 votes and Beaver vs Beaver Falls at 221 votes. Please get everyone you know to vote so the "OX" can cover the game.
